The Universe is yelling at us!

January 12, 2009

Roaring, actually, as described by a group of astronomers who found an unknown noise from the “distant cosmos” that is apparently six times louder than they expected it to be.

Now how would they know what to expect from an unknown noise from the distant cosmos?

The roar is reaching us in the form of radio waves, which are emitted from various types of celestial bodies, including our own dear Milky Way.  Most of those radio waves comes across as a hiss.  This roar is way louder than anything previously encountered from space and quite unexpected, and NASA doesn’t know what to make of it.  It sounds to me like the universe is trying to get our attention, maybe warn us to get our act together…
