Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy – Douglas Adams

January 6, 2009

Wow, nothing like it to cheer you up, especially after something as damn depressing as Phillip K. Dick.  Anyway, for anyone out there who just crawled out from under a rock and hasn’t already read this, Douglas Adams is hysterically funny.  He does British humor (humour?) in a science fiction format.  For example -

“Eddies in the space-time continuum!”  “Oh, and that’s his sofa, is it?”

Hubby says you can’t explain this book/series, it is something you have to experience, and that I should just say “42…nuff said.”

By the way, this cover is from the original paperback edition as published in the UK.  I thought that was kind of cool.

Forbidden Library

January 6, 2009

This is just cool.  It is a site featuring only books that have been banned at one time or another, by one group or another.  So if you are feeling a little too goody-goody, need something to brag about to your friends, or are just bored and have time to kill, go on over to The Forbidden Library and get corrupted by all those terrible books.

I think I may use it as a booklist for this year :)

Oh, and thanks to WiSB for bringing this to my attention.

More science stuff

Check this out from Pink Tentacle.  My favorite part is the fact that the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency has a space toilet research group.  My question is: how long exactly are they supposed to wear this contraption?
